  2. A Mac app that writes down what you say, privately, on your Mac.

The whole app is one key. Tap to start and tap to stop. Hold it to talk in Quick. Tap again while it’s working to add more. Nothing here uses your microphone: it plays back what the app does.

Smart

Talk like you talk. Smart takes out the ums, adds the punctuation and turns a spoken list into a list. It never translates or adds ideas.

Cleaned up on your Mac, nothing sent anywhere.

You say

Um, so for tomorrow, first send Sam the agenda, second book the boardroom, and, uh, third remind everyone to bring the numbers.

Smart writes

For tomorrow: filler removed

  1. Send Sam the agenda. numbered list
  2. Book the boardroom.
  3. Remind everyone to bring the numbers. full stops added

Right ⌥ Hold

Quick

Hold the key while you talk, then let go. Your exact words land at the cursor, with no cleanup model in between.

Your exact words, fastest.

Message to Sam

So for tomorrow, first send Sam the agenda, second book the boardroom, and third remind everyone to bring the numbers.

Everything stays on this Mac.

Speech recognition and cleanup run on your own machine. Your account counts how you use Seshat, never what you say. Your words never leave your Mac.

An account, never your words
Sign in with Google, GitHub, Apple or an emailed code. Your account comes with usage stats: which apps you dictate into, how many dictations and words, timings and crash reports. Never your audio or your text. History and insights live on this Mac. What we collect
Works offline
Once the models are downloaded and you’re signed in, no internet needed. When you’re online it checks your account, sends its usage stats and looks for signed updates.
On. Seshat doesn’t need it to dictate. Try turning it off.

29 languages. You choose.

Tap any language to dictate a hello in it.

Heard automatically

Pick 2 to 4 of your languages and Seshat detects which one you’re speaking, on your Mac. English, Afrikaans and the world languages can all join that set. Afrikaans has its own model and mixes with English mid-sentence.

Beta World languages

Beta African languages, picked by hand

Clips up to 40 seconds. The Beta languages are not yet tested by native speakers, so accuracy varies. Tell us what it gets wrong.

Fix it once.

Correct a name after it’s pasted and Seshat asks to remember the spelling. Teach it your names, brands and jargon, or set a rule: never write this, always write that. It all stays on this Mac.

Your day, by the hour.

The Overview draws when you talk. A flower for the hours of your day, noon at the top, and a quilt of your last seven weeks, with today in saffron. Insights keep numbers only, and they stay on this Mac.

Your day, by the hour

Your quilt

The Overview, with sample data. Yours fills in as you dictate.

On the loom.

Being sewn now. No dates yet, just what’s coming.

  • Internet once to download the models
  • Free during the beta
Does anything I say leave my Mac?

No. Speech recognition and cleanup run on your Mac, and your history stays there too. Seshat goes online to download the models you pick, check for signed updates, check your account and send usage stats: counts and app names, never your words. The only way your words reach us is a dictation report you choose to send.

Why do I need an account?

Seshat is invite-only, and your account is how you get in: Google, GitHub, Apple or an emailed code, no password. It also comes with usage stats, like which apps you dictate into, how many dictations and words, and crash reports, so we can build and run Seshat. Your account never gets your audio or your words, and it never stops a dictation. Everything we collect

Do I need internet?

Once, to download the models and sign in. After that, dictation works with no connection at all. When you’re back online, Seshat checks your account, sends its usage stats and looks for signed updates.

What will it cost?

Nothing during the beta. Members of the Gauteng AI Community get it free.

Which apps does it work in?

Anywhere you can type: Claude, Mail, Slack, Notes, Messages, your browser. If no text field is active, it copies the text so you can press ⌘V.

Smart or Quick: which should I use?

Smart for messages, notes and prompts. Quick when you want your exact words as fast as possible. Both live on one key.

Which languages can I use?

29 in all: English, Afrikaans, 17 world languages and 10 African languages like isiZulu and Sepedi. The world and African languages are in Beta. Pick 2 to 4 of English, Afrikaans and the world languages and Seshat detects which one you’re speaking. The African languages are picked before you talk, with clips up to 40 seconds. Seshat was built in South Africa by an Afrikaans speaker, and Afrikaans has its own model that mixes with English mid-sentence.

How good are the Beta languages?

They’re in Beta, and the app says so: they’re not yet tested by native speakers, and accuracy varies by language. Smart cleanup never translates. Try yours and tell us what to fix.
